PEACH COBBLER
This is an easy dessert that can be made quickly using canned peaches. Once you assemble the ingredients, follow the simple steps. Any part or all of the dessert can be frozen for later use if not eaten immediately.
Peach Cobbler is popular with children and makes a great choice for families on a budget, it can be stored in the fridge for up to five days once cooked.
INGREDIENTS
* 2 oz butter
* all-purpose flour
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* milk
* baking powder
* 1 can of peaches (drain off the juice)
METHOD
Melt the butter in the baking dish that you plan to do the cooking in. Mix flour, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl, add milk, and beat until lump free, and combined to form a batter then pour the batter over the buttery peaches in the baking dish.
Bake in a moderate oven for about thirty minutes.
FRESH PEACHES
If you happen to have a peach tree, fresh peaches are perfect but will take a bit longer as the peaches must be poached first using a saucepan on top of the cooktop. Poach them lightly being careful not to overcook, as fresh fruits have so much flavor.
WHEN IS PEACH COBBLER COOKED
After thirty minutes in the oven, the peach cobbler will be golden brown and bubbling.
Allow it to sit for five minutes before serving so that it reaches a safe temperature to eat.
It can be served with ice cream, cream, or custard.
VARYING THE RECIPE
By simply varying the recipe, you can change your Cobbler to Crumble. and for Crumble topping you need to do the following. Mix 1 cup brown sugar, with 1 cup flour and two ounces of butter. Mix with your hands until the mixture is crumbly then sprinkle over the top of the peaches and bake for half an hour.
COLD PEACH COBBLER
On a hot summer’s day, what could be nicer than a cold peach cobbler? Cook your dessert the day before and refrigerate. Then simply remove it from the fridge and serve cold. If you are entertaining guests, this dish is delightful when served with sparkling white wine or champagne.
As you can see peach cobbler is perfect for all times of the year, hot in winter and cold in summer. You can even vary the fruit and use apples, pears, or berries instead of peaches. Nectarines make an excellent substitute for peaches.
